Recently ADM City RP Singh accompanied by RK Yadav, regional tourist officer, inspected a few city hotels. "Most of the hotel owners deter from following the rules and regulations set up for their smooth functioning. This has to be checked from time to time. Under the Uttar Pradesh Taxation and Land Revenue Act, 1975 there is Uttar Pradesh Luxury Tax Rules in Hotels, 1975 according to which the hotels have to maintain three registers. The LT2 register is supposed to carry the details of the rental charges of the rooms. Whether the rental is increased or reduced it has to be done on the first day of the month and followed for the rest of the month.

In the next register, there should be details regarding the entries made by the guests such as name, address, room number, and how much luxury tax was charged from them. And in the third register, the details pertaining to the monthly luxury tax has to be entered," said RK Yadav, regional tourist officer.

Besides, the department is also registering the actual rental charges of the hotels which will be published and the details will be available at the reception counters of the Tourism Department.

"This will help the tourists in knowing the exact charges and they will be saved from being cheated. We are also checking the hygienic condition of the hotels and those not up to the mark are being warned. Checkings are also underway to see if the standards are being maintained. Similar procedure is being carried out for the dharmashalas and guest houses," added Yadav.

"In future also such inspections will be conducted and in most of the cases we are planning to undertake surprise inspections so as to get the clear picture," he said.
