Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Wednesday said he would ensure "exemplary punishment" to army troopers, if found guilty, in the alleged killing of two civilians in a Kashmir Village last month.
A case was registered against troopers of the counter-insurgency Rashtriya Rifles for the Feb 21 shootout that killed two civilians at Bumai village near Sopore town, 50 km from Srinagar.
The killings sparked widespread violent protests in the Kashmir Valley following which the government ordered a magisterial probe into the incident.
"According to my information, the report of the enquiry has been received by the state chief secretary. I haven't seen it yet," Abdullah told reporters in Srinagar.
"As per media reports, the enquiry has indicted some troopers of the Rashtriya Rifles for the incident.
"If it is so, I shall carry the report personally to the central home minister and the defence minister to ensure that the guilty are given exemplary punishment," he said.
The chief minister said bringing those responsible for the innocent killings in Bumai last month to book was a matter of credibility for his government.
