After the recent hike in petrol and diesel prices, the cost of Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) will be increased from Wednesday.
Now, residents of the city will have to shell out Rs 1.25 extra as Haryana City Gas Distribution Limited will hike CNG prices from Rs 32.50 to Rs 33.75 per kg (including VAT).
Though CNG is considered an economical fuel, commuters are unhappy with the frequent price hikes.
Rates were last revised two months ago in November by Rs 1.50 per kg and that was the eighth hike in the last two years in Gurgaon since July 2008 when it was launched at the rate of Rs 27.50.
In the last one year, the price has been revised for the fourth time. Satish Chopra, chairman and managing director, Haryana City Gas Distribution Limited, said, “The increase is being effected due to an increase in purchase rates on account of devaluation of rupee (as gas purchase rate is in dollars). The new price would be applicable with effect from January 4, 2012.”
He added that there will not be any change in the price of domestic and industrial fuel.
CNG was launched in Gurgaon in July 2008 at the rate of Rs 27.50 which cost Rs 8.6 more than that in Delhi (Rs 18.90).

Parvesh Sharma, a resident of Sector 40, said, “Do we get increments in salaries so frequently? This is really frustrating that they are revising fuel prices so frequently. I think it is high time that the government formulated some policy to control inflation.”
