COLLECTOR VIVEK Aggarwal toured the site of the proposed MG Road police station to explore the possibility of setting back the structures so as to free the space for road widening exercises to be undertaken in the future.
The new police station building would be a two-storeyed structure to be spread over roughly 140 square metres. It is currently functioning from a rented building.
The Indore Municipal Corporation (IMC), which owns the land at the back of the police station has agreed to clear encroachments from the area to clear the way for widening and has asked for a week’s time.
The Collector’s visit triggered off a fresh volley of protests from residents who accused the district administration of appropriating land meant for a proposed left turn to build the new police station building.
Addressing media persons at a press meet here on Monday a group of residents headed by C S Dagaonkar, former IDA engineer and district Congress Minorities Cell president Iqbal Khan vehemently opposed the move to return the MG Road police station to its former site.
The duo claimed that the land on which the police station was being built was reserved for parking purposes under the master plan. They further declared that allowing the structure to come up would not only hamper the proposed left turn on the ultra-busy MG Road but also thwart the Rs 20 lakh IDA proposal to widen the Sanjay Setu Square.

When contacted SP Adarsh Katiyar dismissed the duo’s allegations, pointing out that the High Court had ruled in the district police’s favour in the case.
