Even after inviting walk-in admissions to seats for the BSc course, colleges are still falling short of students to fill their batches.
As the second merit list was released on Friday evening, principals feel that the lack of students might be a main reason for a third list.
“We’re finding it hard to fill BSc because of the high rate of drop-out, though there isn’t the slightest chance for a third list in our college, the only seats we have left are for the regular science course —physics, chemistry, maths, zoology and botany,” said Father Frazer, principal, St Xavier’s College.
Cut-offs for professional courses like BMM and BMS dropped by two or three per cent in the city’s leading colleges leaving very few seats.
BCom (Banking & Insurance), BCom (Financial Markets) saw a maximum dip of four per cent from the first merit list. “There are 20 seats out of 60 vacant for BFM, 18 out of 60 vacant for BAF, 21 out of 60 vacant for BBI,” said T. Shiware, principal, Hinduja College.
The lowest cut offs for science touched 39.16 per cent at Sathaye College, while Jai Hind College and RD National College are still allowing students to walk in to the class.

{{/usCountry}}“A maximum of five seats are vacant for BMM and BMS though for BCom around 30 per cent of the seats are available,” said Raghvendra L, registrar of SIES College, Sion West.
Some colleges who have finished in-house admissions are now making a few seats available to the general categories for aided courses. “We have now put a cut-off of 93.17 per cent available for general category students, now that the in-house admissions are over,” said vice principal of Mithibai College.
The third list that is expected on June 23 will depend entirely on the admissions secured on the second list.
“There is a longer period between the second list and the third list, and this will be the deciding factor for whether there will be a third list,” said Shobhana Vasudevan, principal, Podar College.
