The Delhi Congress is in an "introspection mode" following the resignation of two dozen party councilors from the MCD House to protest the sealing drive. More resignations are expected in the next few hours and it is understood that all 108 Congress councillors in the House of 134 would resign by Thursday.
Though, the move is being seen as a populist one to get sympathy of the people before the MCD polls in March next year, the state leadership found it difficult to explain the decision.
"The resignations are not against the government—Centre or the state. It is to protest the sealing issue," Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee (DPCC) president Ram Babu Sharma told Hindustan Times. Sharma said the Leader of the House in MCD, Jitender Kochhar is in jail and when he comes out, he will take an appropriate decision.
Asked why was the Congress behaving like the Opposition on the sealing issue, Sharma said from the very beginning the party was with the traders. "The protest is only against sealing and not against the party or the government," he insisted.

The resolution asked for an end to the sealing drive and allotment of alternative sites and shops for all those whose properties are sealed in the court ordered drive.

{{/usCountry}}"The government and the chief minister are duty bound to get their resolution implemented. As elected representatives, we are duty bound to reflect the aspirations of the people," the DPCC president said. Asked if any MLA would also resign, Sharma said, "it depends on them".
"We are hurt by the renewed sealing drive. We have offered to step down so that we can join the traders' protest in their hour of need," said a Congress Councillor. The BJP, on the other hand, termed the resignations as "drama".
"They should have submitted it to the Commissioner instead of the Leader of the House," said the BJP.
