While Congress accused the state government of "dictatorship" and warned of a possible "civil war", SP said it's state government's responsibility to give electricity.

Bahujan Samajwadi Party, however, countered the charges and alleged the Centre is not giving the amount of power required by the state.

Blaming Mayawati, Congress spokesperson Manish Tewari said, "The government of Uttar Pradesh is a dictatorial government, which has no political thinking. The incident is an outcome of the irritation of the government...This is highly condemnable."

Former union minister Sriprakash Jaiswal said the UP government should adopt a sensitive approach towards such issues and warned, "otherwise a situation of civil war will happen in the whole state".

He wondered what would be the fate of other districts if a VIP constituency like Amethi is having a "power cut of 16 hours".
