The Congress on Friday condoled the death of Teji Bachchan, mother of Bollywood superstar Amitabh Bachchan and wife of literary great Harivansh Rai Bachchan.

"We offer our condolences on the sad demise of Teji Bachchan. She was herself a very active social worker when she was capable and healthy," AICC spokesperson Shakeel Ahmed told reporters.

"We give our condolences to the bereaved family and the people close to her," he said.

Teji, 93, died on Friday in Mumbai's Lilavati Hospital, where she was for almost the whole of the year and was shifted to the ICU last month after her condition worsened.
