Himachal Pradesh director general of police Sanjay Kumar, who arrived here on Thursday, said the police in the hill state was focusing on community policing to strengthen the police-public interaction.
It was his first tour to the district after assuming the office of the state police chief.
“The community policing welfare scheme had not only been instrumental in bridging the gap between the police and the public, but also has been able to build its image with the people,” Kumar said, adding that community policing, interaction and support from public could help in controlling crime in a big way.
He added that various schemes were on cards to meet state-specific problems pertaining to the police force, some of which have already been submitted to the finance commission.
He said surveillance equipment and the cyber crime cell of the state police was being upgraded time to time and the criminal tracking network was being linked to the national network.
Replying to a query over alleged arrogant behaviour of lower rank police officials with the public, Kumar said various orientation programmes were being introduced in police training.

{{/usCountry}}“We feel that the police personnel should project right behviour with public, which will also help in building the image of the police,” said Kumar.
Answering to another question, the chief cop said there was no specific problem on the Chamba-Jammu & Kashmir border after withdrawal of the Indo-Tibet Police Force (ITBP).
“The entire border is properly manned. We have sufficient and efficient force to guard the border,” said Kumar adding that all routes on the border are open and people can cross over to either states.
