The special MCOCA court today extended the judicial custody till January 16 of twenty members of terror group Indian Mujahideen, arrested for their involvement in various blasts across the country since 2005.
Only six out of the 20 accused were produced before special MCOCA judge R G Avachat, as the remaining accused are presently in the custody of Gujarat police in connection with the Surat and Ahmedabad blasts.
The prosecution had on the last hearing, filed an application before the court seeking extension of the 90 day period by which a chargesheet would have to be filed.
The prosecution sought an extension of 60 days stating that more investigation needs to be conducted in the case and that the Mumbai crime branch would file the chargesheet in the case within 60 days.
Special MCOCA Judge Y D Shinde on December 22 had accepted the application and granted the prosecution 60 days more to file their chargesheet.
The 20 persons have been accused of carrying out blasts in Delhi, Ahmedabad, Surat, Bangalore and several other blasts that took place in the country since 2005.
