Observing that there was no need to grant police custody of the two college students arrested for alleged consumption and possession of cocaine in south Mumbai, a local court on Friday granted them bail.
After hearing the arguments of public prosecutor and defence lawyer, the magistrate granted bail to the duo for a surety of Rs 10,000 each.
Anti-Narcotic Cell of Mumbai police arrested Mohit Ramchandani (23) and Ifzan Izrar Baig (19) and seized their Maruti car after recovering four grams of cocaine worth Rs 12,000 from them near Bhavan’s College on Thursday. The two were charged under Sections 21, 27 and 29 of NDPS Act.
Police said the duo have admitted that they had consumed the drug. A Nigerian named Yousuf, who allegedly supplied the cocaine to them, was still at large, they added.
Seven companions of the accused, identified as Sachin Madhvani, Shubhraj Giriraj Suman, Pranav Barot, Aniket Sawant, Shailesh Rathod, Vipin Kotekar and Priyank Shah, aged between 20-25 years, were let off after nothing was found in their possession, police said.
However, they said, their urine and blood samples were taken at GT Hospital in Mumbai and sent for forensic tests and if the samples indicate consumption of cocaine, necessary action would be taken against them.
