The sessions court on March 30 is likely to pronounce its judgment in the sensational Ramabai Nagar firing case, in which the accused is State Reserve police officer Manohar Kadam.
The case dates back to 1997 and Kadam is accused to have ordered indiscriminate firing on a Dalit mob that was protesting against the desecration of an Ambedkar statue on July 11, 1997.
The firing had left ten dead and over 25 injured.
After the incident, the state government had appointed a commission under Justice S D Gundewar in November 1997 to investigate the incident. It completed its enquiry by August 1998. The report indicated Kadam for firing indiscriminately at the mob.
Based on the report, the state sanctioned Kadam's prosecution in August 2001 and an FIR was lodged against him.
During the trial, Kadam had denied all the allegations and claimed that it was necessary for him to open fire on the mob to control the situation.
The Sewree sessions court is likely to pass the judgment in this case on March 30.
