Actor Rakhi Sawant added some glamour quotient to a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) event where former army chief Gen VK Singh and others had to join the outfit.
Party chief Rajnath Singh was pleasantly surprised with the gesture. “She touched my feet and said she had come to tie Rakhi on the wrist of retired servicemen who have come to join the BJP. I was touched. Be it Bollywood or any other service, people have so much regards for jawans,” Singh said after formally inducting the former Army chief into the party, adding Sawant’s visit had made him “emotional”.
As camerapersons and party workers jostled with each other to take her picture, Sawant — who has never been accused of being publicity shy — called herself ‘daughter of the BJP’ whose “only desire” was to see Narendra Modi as the next Prime Minister.
Sawant was diplomatically correct and made sure she ducked the obvious questions of joining the party. “I have just come to the office. I do not know anything about joining the party. The senior leaders will be able to say better. I haven’t thought of anything as yet,” she replied to a query by a journalist.
