The Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) on Monday seized 25 kg of methamphetamine — worth Rs 50 crore in the international market — from a suspended Punjab Police inspector who also happens to be an Arjuna Award winner.
Jagdish Singh, who is also a wrestler, was caught with the party drug on the Western Express Highway, near Oberoi Mall in Goreagaon, where he’d come to make a delivery.
The recipient, Veer Bahadur Singh, was also arrested.
Singh won the Arjuna Award in 1998 and is also a silver medal winner in wrestling at the 1994 Asian Games.
NCB officials said Singh had brought the methamphetamine from Chandigarh. The drug, which costs Rs two crore per kg in the international market, is valued at Rs 40-50 lakh per kg in the local market. This way, peddlers earn four to five times profit from it.
Officials said Singh had packed the drug in one kg pouches with double polythene; all those pouches were in a hand bag.
The NCB is looking at the bigger picture behind the arrest and investigating a group that was to receive this drug and whether Singh too is part of a bigger network. It is also investigating the destination of the drug; they have got some information that it was meant for some foreign country.

{{/usCountry}}On Singh, officials said he was suspended from Punjab Police as he was suspected to be involved in a similar offence earlier.
The NCB also plans to go into the background of his suspension and the exact nature of the crime committed by him then.
