Delhi boys on track

The under-19 team has qualified for the Elite group, while the under-16 team has finished 2nd in the tally, reports Heena Zuni Pandit.

Though the Delhi Ranji team could not qualify for the quarterfinal this season, the age group teams have returned home with some consolation. The under-19 team has qualified for the Elite group, while the under-16 team has finished 2nd in the tally.

After its fine performance this season, the under-19 team, which was in Plate-A Group of the Cooch Behar Trophy, have qualified for next season's Elite Group. The team led by Rahul Bharadwaj was boosted in the knockout stage by the presence of Pradeep Sangwan who took eight wickets in two matches. Manan Sharma was the highest wicket-taker snapping 26 wickets.

But the most remarkable performer was Yogesh Nagar who scored 535 runs and came up with a blistering knock of 173 against MP to ensure their qualification.

The under-16 team led by Manoj Chauhan finished second in the Vijay Merchant. Tarang Gupta became the highest run-getter scoring 276 runs in seven matches, while Unmukt Chand scored 234 in four matches. His highest --- 67 --- came in the final against Punjab, while Shelly Shorya was the highest wicket-taker at 17 from 5 matches.
