A day after registering an FIR to stall the screening of the documentary — India’s Daughter — directed by British filmmaker Leslee Udwin, Delhi Police said a team of officers from the cyber wing will analyse the unedited version of the film.
However, till late on Wednesday night the police were yet to get a copy of the film.
Udwin said she had not been contacted by the Delhi Police. Also, in the evening, the police released another advisory asking the media not to run the promos claiming that the excerpts of the interview “are highly offensive and have already created a situation of tension and fear amongst women in society”.
In their petition to seek a restraining order against the movie’s screening, the investigating officer told the court that if the movie was allowed to be aired, it may cause huge public outcry and create problems of law and order.
The release signed by the DCP of the Economic Offences Wing - cyber wing of Delhi Police - read, “accused Mukesh Singh has made malicious, derogatory, offensive, insulting remarks against women, causing harassment and disrepute”.
Police Commissioner BS Bassi told reporters that there is nothing unlawful to give permission for an interview. He said,
“We are not investigating why permission was given for the interview. The police will probe the content of the interview and why it was not shown to the authorities. The filmmaker was allowed to hold the interview under certain conditions one of which was it should not contain anything against the law.”
Police Commissioner BS Bassi told reporters that there is nothing unlawful to give permission for an interview. He said,
