With the blasts of October 29 last year still fresh in their minds, hoteliers in the Capital have stepped up security in their establishments by installing hi-tech devices like closed circuit television cameras (CCTVs) to keep a close watch on visitors.
Installation of CCTVs was among the guidelines provided by Delhi Police to hotels and lodges, where thousands of people check in every day, after it emerged that the bombers had stayed in one such establishment at Karol Bagh in central Delhi.
"Not again. This time we are trying our best to avoid any such incidents. We are taking all precautionary measures and are keeping a tight vigil on all visitors," said Vijay Nagrath, president of the Hotel and Lodging House Owners Associations.
"According to guidelines provided by Delhi Police last year, we have installed CCTVs in our reception area to film all visitors," he said.
Pointing out that most visitors are old customers, Nagrath said new ones are asked to produce a photo-identity cards which should be recognised by the government. "We keep copies of these identity cards in our records," he said.
"There are more than 500 hotels and lodges in Nabi Karim and Paharganj and all of them are strictly following these guidelines," he said.
