Eminent social activist and founder of Indian American Friendship Council (IAFC), Dr Krishna Reddy, was honoured for his contribution towards promoting better ties between Indian and Jewish communities in the United States.
"I believe Indian Americans have a lot to learn from the strong Jewish community in the United States,” Dr Reddy said during the awards ceremony conducted bythe Community Research and Information Centre (CRIC), a local Jewish organization.
Dr Reddy said his philanthropy and community activism was the result of a realisation that it was time to give back to society in whatever way possible. “I will continue to work for better relations between the two communities,” he added.
Giving away two plaques and an artistic painting by Jewish artist Raphael Abecassis, the master of ceremonies and host Howard Winkler praised Dr Reddy's tireless efforts in promoting Indo-Jewish relations.
"This wonderful work of art we're giving to Krishna celebrates the book of Esther in the Bible where the goodness of Mordecai overcomes the evil of Haman in King Ahaseurus' kingdom that extended from India to Africa in the 7th to 8th Century BCE. Krishna, we're very appreciative of all you do," he said.
Among the attendees were Sacramento Assembly Member Cindy Montanez,John Chang from the State Board of Equalization, and US Congressman Brad Sherman, who announced the launch of a website that detailscurrent events in Iran and its impact on Israel and the Middle East.
Theawards ceremony, held at the La Gondola Restaurant last week, witnessed several guests of honour. This included a diversity of representatives from several political regions of Southern California.
The Community Research and Information Centre is a part of the Political Action Committee or PAC, which is a Jewish organisation that promotes charity drives, raises support for candidates for office, and lobbies on political and social issues on behalf of the Jewish community in Los Angeles and neighbouring areas.
