Police said Devinder Singh, a resident of Sector 55, Faridabad, was crossing the railway tracks at Old Faridabad railway station on Sunday evening with his earphones on. The victim was a student of engineering.

"We were told that a person was walking from the fourth to the third railway track around 3.30pm on Sunday with his earphones on. This was when the Goa Express from Delhi reached Old Faridabad railway station," SHO Government Railway Police Dhoop Singh said.

"Some passengers had called out to him when the express train was passing but he could not hear anything because of his earphones. He was unfortunately crushed under the train," the railway police officials said.

"It was difficult to locate his family as he was not carrying any identity proof. It was late in the night when we managed to trace his family in Sector 55 area, which is close to Ballabgarh," police said.

On Monday morning, the police handed over his body to his family for cremation.
