The Election Commission has agreed to consider revising the electoral rolls in Maharashtra after the Lok Sabha elections are over, Union Minister for Petroleum and Natural Gas Ram Naik said in Mumbai on Friday.
The move comes in the wake of the furore created after many people, including several celebrities, failed to find their names on the rolls and cast their votes on April 26.
Naik, who contested the Mumbai North constituency, said in a statement that he met Deputy Election Commissioner AN Jha and discussed the issue of missing of thousands of names from the electoral rolls though they were holding voter's identity cards issued by the Commission.
Naik said the EC has also agreed to provide postal ballots to those on poll duty.
He said nearly 21,000 government employees worked in 2,149 polling stations and nearly 7,000 police personnel were deployed for maintaining law and order.
"It is ironical that 28,000 employees who facilitated smooth election are deprived of their voting rights", he said and demanded that rules be changed to make obligatory for the Returning Officer to provide postal ballots to all employees.
