Senior CDAC scientist Dr Debashish Mazumdar said a group of scientists were developing a biometric technology system that would focus on emotional expressions exhibited by a person. Psychologists have already proved that there was a close co-relation between emotional expressions and the personality of a person.

For example, Dr Mazumdar said when a person laughs, the corners of the lips tighten, the eyes look different and the cheeks change colour. Similarly, in other emotional stages, several prominent changes are witnessed on the face of the individual. He said research on application of emotional expressions in biometric identification processes has attracted global attention and a few countries have expressed desire to collaborate in research project. Meanwhile, he added, the CDAC was developing software which could identify frontal images for identification purposes. The software was in the trial process.
