A MoU between Stanford University, government of Andhra Pradesh and Emergency Management and Research Institute (EMRI), Hyderabad was signed on Thursday during the visit of Chief Minister Dr YS Rajasekhara Reddy to the Stanford University, California.
As per the MOU, Stanford University Medical Centre will assist the EMRI, a non-profit organisation started by Satyam Computers, in training professionals in emergency care in India. The Stanford group will also teach paramedic educators in India who can carry on the work of instructing the next generation of advanced emergency medical technicians.
EMRI, which has the backing of the state government, operates over 500 ambulances, and has a state-of- the-art call center that handles more than 15,000 calls each day.All ambulances and pre-hospital care is provided free of charge and a mix of private and government funding supports the programme.
Besides Rajasekhara Reddy and Burt McMurtry,Chairman Stanford University Board, other present during the Mou signing were Ramalinga Raju,Chairman of Satyam Computers, Philip Pizzo,Dean of the School of Medicine, Stanford and Venkat Changavalli, CEO of EMRI.
