A little girl died after her father allegedly slapped her for losing a Rs 100 note at Malgodown in Cuttack district yesterday.
Confirming the report a senior police officer said a case of unintentional murder under section 304 of IPC could be lodged suo motu against Brundaban Behera, a rickwshaw puller, who allegedly slapped his nine-year-old daughter in a fit of rage after the child reportedly lost the note in the market.
Though the girl fell unconscious and was declared brought dead at hospital, no official complaint was lodged with the police and no witness came forward to testify, police officer Manoj Satapathy said adding considering the nature of the incident police were thinking about lodging a case suo motu on its own.
Interestingly while the father admitted having slapped his daughter twice but this much, her mother claimed she had not seen anything.
