Gustad, along with two members of his crew, is facing manslaughter charge over his British deputy Khan's death in a train accident on May 27 at Mahalaxmi railway station during the shooting of his movie, Mumbai Central.

In a submission that the court allowed him to make, the filmmaker said, "I had personally spoken to Nadia's mother in London and had asked her to fax a letter to Nair hospital so that the body could be claimed.

"I had told her that the letter was essential under Indian law to claim the body," he added. Public prosecutor Pradeep Rane told the court the railway police investigating the case was yet to verify the signature on the letter, faxed by Nadia's mother from London to Nair's hospital, on the basis of which Gustad's colleague Ayesha Shroff claimed the victim's body.

The court turned down his bail application, accepting the prosecution plea that the railway police investigating the case needs more time.

"The police are still awaiting the autopsy report and the chemical analyser's examination report. "She was pronounced dead before admission in Nair's hospital," Rane added.
