There seems no end to their trouble as over 700 inhabitants of Malana village in Kullu district in Himachal Pradesh are now battling against snowfall, barely a few days after they suffered heavy losses due to a devastating fire on new year day.

The village is covered by about two feet snow, hampering relief work. The relief materials have to be carried to Malana by span ropeway from the nearest road head, about 3 km from the village.

The district administration has taken up relief and rehabilitation work on war-footing but frequent snowfall and rain make their task difficult.

The district administration has so far provided three trucks of fodder to the villagers, Deputy Commissioner of Kullu, Abhishek Jain, told PTI on Thursday.

The hapless families have been provided CGI sheet huts as temporary accommodation, the Deputy Commissioner said, adding they were also given free ration for four months through Public Distribution System (PDS) on instruction of Chief Minister Prem Kumar Dhumal.
