Paul Valthaty, who announced himself on the big stage with a brilliant 63-ball 120 not out against the Chennai Super Kings in the last edition of Indian Premier League says fitness is of utmost importance to any sportsman who wants to excel at the highest level.

League says fitness is of utmost importance to any sportsman who wants to excel at the highest level.

The Mumbai batsman says that a player has to train close to 300 days of the year to remain competitive and reveals that he trains for close to 90 minutes every day.
When asked about his daily fitness routine, during the offseason and during season, he says: " It's only in the off season that you can try to improve your fitness levels."

"In a week, it's basically two to three sessions of weight training and two days of cardio exercises, along with the basic core exercises. For batsmen, the emphasis is on running between the wickets, shoulders and the back."

The Kings XI Punjab batsman stresses the importance of a balanced diet. "During the off season the focus is more on protein-rich foods like fish, meat and chicken
while during the season the emphasis is more on food with high carbohydrates contents."
