Campaigning was never so easy. The technology-friendly Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has now ensured that their volunteers can connect to voters from the comfort of their home —with just a phone call to a virtual call centre.
This is how it works: The party will set up a virtual call centre. When an AAP volunteer calls its toll-free number, he would automatically be connected to a number belonging to prospective voter.
“Once connected, the supporter will explain to the person the party’s goals and ideals and why he or she should vote for the party,” said party spokesperson Dilip Pandey. The party hopes this would help it reach out to at least 100 million voters across the country.
The technology is different from the popular method used by other parties till now wherein a voter is bombarded with pre-recorded messages.
“Personal calls to voters asking them to vote for a party works better than a pre-recorded message,” said Bhaskar Singh, in-charge of the programme. It also obviates the need to set up a call centre thus significantly reducing the cost of campaigning. The party will just bear the cost of the calls made unlike a call centre, where the employees have to be paid a salary.
But would it work? The system is not exactly new for it, AAP insists. The party had used this method to campaign during the Delhi assembly elections. And it had connected to 800,000 voters with just around 21,000 volunteers.
