CHIEF MINISTER Shivraj Singh Chouhan today formally inaugurated the four-day Madhya Pradesh Festival at India International Centre, New Delhi, by lighting a ceremonial lamp.
Welcoming the guests, the Chief Minister said, immense natural wealth of the State is the very first thing that comes to mind about Madhya Pradesh.
Chouhan said it was his dream to take the State forward economically, keeping in mind its great culture, traditions, and values.
He considered it a sacred ‘yatra’ to lead the State on path of progress. Speaking about the immense potential for development in the State, the Chief Minister said by 2008-09, the State would become self-sufficient in power. Madhya Pradesh is a progressive industrial state and many new industries are likely to be set up in near future.
He said people of Madhya Pradesh were peace-loving and the State was the leading producer of diamonds in the country. He said the State was committed to improving infrastructure in the next three years. Roads were vastly improved in the past two years.
In this period, 13,000 km roads were already constructed. A target of 40,000 km of new roads would be achieved in the next three years.

{{/usCountry}}Talking about the rich cultural heritage of Madhya Pradesh, the Chief Minister said great musicians like Tansen, Ustad Alaudding Khan hailed from the State.
Madhya Pradesh had its own folk songs, dances, poetry, stories and folk tales, which added richness and variety to its culture.
The inauguration was followed by a concert presented by the famous Maihar Band established by great maestro Ustad Alauddin Khan in 1918. Later, a film on Kumar Gandharv directed by Jabbar Patel, was screened.
An exhibition, showcasing the historical heritage and culture of the State at IIC was appreciated by the guests. The Festival, being held to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the State of Madhya Pradesh, will have an exciting range of instrumental and vocal music presentations, discussions on art, film screenings and events showcasing cuisine from the State.
