Jharkhand police on Friday claimed to have shot at four Naxalites in an encounter at Garwah's Suru village while another Maoist was arrested at Kerua village in the district.
Addressing a press conference, Superintendent of Police Deepak Verma said the security men saw bullets hitting four ultras who have been carried away by their associates during the encounter at Suru village.
Blood stains were found during search operation, he said.
Acting on a tip-off that a group of 25 ultras had assembled at Paraspani village this morning, the security forces rushed to the spot.
As the ultras opened fire, the police, taking up positions, forced the ultras to flee to neighbouring Suru village with strong return fire, Verma said.
The securitymen chased them to that village where the ultras pushed innocent villagers upfront to take cover from the police fire and melted into the forests, he added.
A pistol, cartridges, uniform and literature were recovered from the spot.
In a separate incident at Kerua under Ranka police station, Deepak alias Bikusi, involved in at least four extremist-related violence, was arrested, the police official said.
