Fraudster dupes firm of Rs 3.75 lakh, arrested

AN EMPLOYEE of a courier company, who opened bank accounts in fake names and defrauded companies by encashing their drafts, has been arrested by the police. He had managed to withdraw Rs 3.75 lakh from a company?s account, but when he tried to repeat his crime by encashing another cheque amounting to Rs 2.5 lakh in another bank, he was caught.

He had managed to withdraw Rs 3.75 lakh from a company’s account, but when he tried to repeat his crime by encashing another cheque amounting to Rs 2.5 lakh in another bank, he was caught.

According to Bhanwarkuan police, manager of Centurion Bank of Punjab called up the police station and informed that a youth was withdrawing Rs 2.5 lakh from a firm’s account, and they suspected that he was not the person he was posing as.

Police reached the spot and took the youth for questioning. At first he protested his innocence, but after sustained interrogation he confessed. He said his name was Naushad, son of Waris Mohammad, resident of Katju Colony.

He was employed at the Original Courier Company, Silver Mall Building, where he had got hold of two drafts in the name of Rajendra Kumar son of Jagannath Garg, resident of Dhar, which had been issued by Bharat Udyog, Udaigiri, Maharashtra.

Naushad had been given the task of delivering these drafts to Dhar, but instead he stole them. First he opened an account at the Transport Cooperative Bank in the name of Rajendra Kumar, and succeeded in encashing one of the drafts of Rs 3.75 lakh. He then opened another account in the same name at the Centurion Bank of Punjab and was caught when he tried to withdraw the money.
