Member of legislative council Shenaz Ganai, along with cabinet minister Majid Ahmed Wani, called on union health minister Ghulam Nabi Azad at New Delhi and submitted a charter of demands for the twin border districts of Rajouri-Poonch, especially with regard to improving health facilities there.
Ganai told Azad that these two districts have not only suffered on account of disturbances along with the LoC but also on account of least development. She asked the health minister to sanction a medical college at Poonch.
Ganai, who belongs to the National Conference, had won the MLC election on panchayat quota along with the support of the Congress as the two parties had contested elections in coalition. Azad, a senior Congress, leader belongs to Doda district of the Jammu division.
According to a statement, the MLC informed the union health minister that Poonch district, especially, is quite remote and has very difficult terrain most of which is along the Line of Control (LoC) and because of continuous firing there people are continuously in the line of fire.
Ganai asked the health minister to sanction a medical college in Poonch and also setting up of tertiary health centres, which will bring medical relief to the people of two districts.
The MLC had also raised the issue of cross-firing along LoC in Poonch and Rajouri in the ongoing assembly session in calling attention notice and had demanded shifting of people living along LoC to safer places.

She also demanded upgrade of sub-district hospital, Mandi, from 30-bed to 50-bed facility, besides setting up of emergency block, labour room, laboratory, blood storage unit under NRHM.
Ganai, herself a qualified doctor, had recently reviewed health facilities in a meeting held at Poonch, which was chaired by the chief medical officer.
