Absconding gangster Amit Sarnawali alias Bhura known for crimes in Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand and Delhi and who had escaped while being taken to court in December last year has been arrested in Punjab.
Deputy inspector general of police, Garhwal Range Sanjay Gunjyal has confirmed that Amit alias Bhura has been arrested in Patiala, Punjab on Saturday. “A joint team of Punjab police and Uttarakhand police arrested him,” he said.
Bhura had twice fled from police custody. In the last attempt, he fled from the Uttarakhand police custody by throwing chilli powder in cops’ eyes on December 15, 2014.
Police have also arrested his aide Sachin Khokhar, alias Sonu.
Announcing Bhura’s arrest, Patiala senior superintendent of police (SSP) Gurmeet Singh Chauhan said following a tip-off about the movement of the interstate gang members, a team of officials led by superintendent of police (detective) Jaskaranjit Singh Teja laid a trap at on the Bhahdurgarh-Ghanour road and arrested the accused.

Bhura was involved in five murder cases along with a dozen cases of an attempt to murder. He was also involved in the more than 30 cases of robbery, dacoity, under the Arms Act and the NDPS Act in Punjab, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand.

{{/usCountry}}A special investigation team (SIT) with 300 policemen was also formed by Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand and Delhi to arrest members of the Bhura gang.
The Uttarakhand and Uttar Pradesh governments had announced `5 lakh reward each on the gangster’s arrest.
Chauhan said police had information that the accused were travelling from Delhi to Bahadurgarh via Ghanour in a white Scorpio SUV bearing a fake registration number. The police barricaded the road and signalled the vehicle to stop. The accused tried to sped away, but the vehicle got stuck in the second barricade.
Police have recovered two AK-47 rifles, a 9mm pistol, and .32-bore pistols with 12 live cartridges, besides fake Aadhar cards and driving licenses.
