A new study reveals that the couple who are truly happy in their marriage do not only enjoy a fulfilling sex life, but also are very generous to each other. And by generosity, the researchers don’t mean that the partners shower each other with lavish gifts. It could be something as simple as making a cup of coffee, giving flowers or physical attention, says the research.
“It’s signaling to your spouse that you know them, and are trying to do things for them that are consistent with your understanding of them,” lead researcher Bradford Wilcox was quoted as telling MSNBC.
Psychiatrists agree that sex is overrated in a relationship. Happy relationships are more about being sensitive and empathetic to your partner’s needs. “A woman may be pining for her husband’s attention more than lavish gifts. It’s about understanding the other person from his/her point of view,” says psychologist Dr Pulkit Sharma.
“Simple acts such as asking how your day was, or helping your partner in household chores build a strong emotional bond which leads to better sex too,” says psychiatrist Dr Avdesh Sharma. “But due to changing mindset, people fail to realise their partner’s needs or reciprocate their feeling, which leads to conflict,” he adds.
