Ghazal maestro Jagjit Singh remembered on his second death anniversary

As a part of remembrance and to pay tribute on the second death anniversary of ghazal maestro Jagjit Singh, Nirvana Academy a cultural club and Jagjit Fans' club (a volunteer initiative) organised 'Jagjit's Voice of Jammu 2013'- a ghazal talent hunt based on the ghazals, songs and bhajans sung by Jagjit Singh at KL Saigal hall, Jammu.

Programme also marked the awareness campaign among the people to pledge a support in bringing up the National Trust Act (NTA) 1999 Jammu and Kashmir for welfare of people with autism, cerebral palsy and multiple disabilities.

The event was an initiative to carry forward his legacy and keep his work alive among the youth under the guidance of Hemu Karki, chairperson Jagjit Fans Club, along with Hitesh Badyal, president Nirvana Academy.

As many as 40 participants from different schools, colleges and music institutes took part in the talent hunt programme, sung Jagjit's famous heart rendering numbers featuring Jhuki Jhuki si Nazar, Pyar Ka Pehla Khat, Chitthi Na Koi Sandesh, Tum Itna Jo Muskura Rehe Ho etc.

The competition was adjudged by the panel of experts in the field of ghazals including, Dharmesh Nargotra, ghazal singer of national repute and tabla maestro Krishan Lal Verma.

Unfortunately this act is applicable in whole of India except Jammu and Kashmir.

Umesh Sharma, chairperson, Disabled Care Foundation, also spoke on the occasion telling about the importance of the act for the welfare of the differently-abled children.

He requested people of the society to come forward to support in this act in Jammu & Kashmir.
