Captain Devender Singh Jass (26) of 1 Para regiment, who hailed from Ghaziabad, was killed in a fierce gun battle with militants in Sopore town of Jammu and Kashmir.
The gun-battle between the security forces and the terrorists started early on Tuesday .
A siege was laid at Chinkipora-Sheikh area of Sopore after security forces learnt about the presence of terrorists in the area.
The body of slain Captain Devender Singh Jass (26) was expected to arrive at his residence in Indirapuram, Ghaziabad early on Thursday morning.
Hundreds of residents thronged the house of the slain officer after news of his death came in late on Tuesday night.
“We received the news at around 7 pm on Tuesday, when his Commanding Officer called us up from Srinagar,” said Bhupender Singh, Jass’s father.
While most youth nowadays prefer to join MNCs, which offer a heavy pay-packet, Jass was an exception.
“He had a computer engineering background and was pursuing his MBA. He was also selected for a cushy job with an MNC but he gave it up to join the Army,” he added.
His father says even though he told him that there was a risk involved in serving in the army, Jass listened to his heart.

{{/usCountry}}“When I told him that, he said there is risk involved in living an ordinary life too,” said Singh. The last time the family spoke to their son was on Saturday, when he promised to join them for Holi celebrations back home.
“He wanted people to remember him as ‘Captain Devender Singh’ and not as an ordinary man. This was important to him,” said a family member.
