Girl set afire for opposing eve teasing in Azamgarh

Cops have launched a massive manhunt for all seven accused named by the victim’s sister in the FIR. Victim’s father is in CRPF and is posted in Varanasi. At present he is on poll duty in Mainpuri. All the accused are next door neighbours of the victim.

A student of BA third year was tied to a tree and burnt alive in Azamgarh late on Tuesday night for opposing eve-teasing.

Cops have launched a massive manhunt for all seven accused named by the victim’s sister in the FIR. Victim’s father is in CRPF and is posted in Varanasi. At present he is on poll duty in Mainpuri. All the accused are next door neighbours of the victim.

According to reports, late on Tuesday night victim stepped out of the house to collect water from a hand pump installed just at the door-step.

As the victim was drawing water from the hand pump, her next door neighbours grabbed her and started misbehaving. When the victim tried to resist and raise an alarm, miscreants tied her to a tree and set her afire after pouring kerosene.

Somehow the victim managed to set her free. Meanwhile, family members of the victim and neighbours rushed to rescue the girl when she shouted for help.

The victim was rushed to primary health centre, Mubarakpur, from where doctors referred her to district hospital, Azamgarh. At the time of incident, victim’s grandmother and sister were at home while mother and two brothers were in New Delhi.
