Relatives of Parvati Ramu Jadhav, who died allegedly of exhaustion and heat after making several trips to collect water on April 22, are unimpressed with a tanker coming everyday to wells near their village.
Dolhare, one of the many villages in Mokhada taluka with severe water scarcity, was in the news when Jadhav collapsed near the well, where she was filling water and died at a private hospital at Nashik. Further investigations are on.
"After Parvati's death, politicians and authorities have visited. The government has sent more tankers in the past few days. We still spend several hours getting water," said Shakuntala Jadhav, her sister-in-law.
Her family members received a compensation of Rs 25,000 from the government and additional help from political parties. They have also been given groceries. However, Parvati's husband is struggling to take care of four daughters. Their eldest son recently had a child and is trying to follow up the case with police and hospital authorities. They spent more than Rs40, 000 trying to revive Parvati. "She could not breathe when we were taking her to hospital," said Jadhav adding they routinely made seven to eight trips to the well.
With a population of about 1,500, Dolhare has four wells and 4 hand pumps, none of which have water in summer. A water storage tank stands out like an eye sore in the village. A villager said it is more than 15 years old and was to be used to collect rainwater.
