"People expected the Finance Minister to be bold to push for reforms and bring liquidity in the market without compromising with the social sector. But the Budget can at best be termed as escapist. It is a big disappointment," former BJP President M Venkaiah Naidu said here.

He claimed that the government took the excuse of economic slowdown as a reason for not involving the private sector in pushing for reforms. "Till October, the government had claimed that global economic situation will not affect India. Now they are making excuses in the name of recession."

Naidu claimed that during the UPA's previous term, the Left parties were termed as a "hurdle" in pushing for reforms. "Now there is no pressure from Left. What is stopping the government now," he quipped.

He was addressing a seminar on 'Budget: Expectations of the common man organised by the party's Investors' Cell.'
