Earlier, targets were set for each department to plant trees. But most of them have not even initiated the campaign.

Though the department is set to raise the issue with the DC, the other departments have their own stories to tell. The department had decided to sell each sapling for Rs 1. But no buyer turned up. It was later decided to distribute the saplings free of cost. But the exercise did not bear fruit.

BS Rana, additional district forest officer, said, “Some departments did not take the project seriously”. Dr Praveen Garg, CMO, said, “Had we been informed, we would have planted more trees.”
