The Gujarat Police has formed 86 Quick Response Teams (QRTs) to be deployed as a security measure at various polling centres across the state on election day April 30, a senior official said on Saturday.
The QRTs have been formed to act immediately in case of any untoward incident on the polling day in the state, Gujarat Director General of Police (DGP) S.S. Khandwawala said in an interview on a news channel.
Khandwawala said that 2,000 mobile police units would be available on standby across Gujarat April 30 near polling centres to keep vigil on all activity near polling booths. "The Gujarat Police is fully geared to meet any emergency on the polling day," he said.
He said the Gujarat Police is taking all necessary security measures several days in advance so that the maximum number of people come out to vote without fear.
"Our planning is precise and very meticulous. There is no reason for anybody to be scared as we are fully geared to ensure complete security of every citizen in Gujarat during the polls," he maintained.
Apart from the polling booths, there would be numerous buildings where the polling process would be conducted and the Gujarat Police would ensure that these buildings are also protected against any kind of threat, Khandwawala added.
