The Supreme Court appointed Centrally Empowered Committee (CEC) that has recommended the demolition of colonies, farmhouses, banquet halls and other illegal buildings on Aravalli Hills in Faridabad has now trained its guns on Gurgaon.
On Tuesday, the Haryana forest department dispatched drawings of 58 villages situated on Aravalli Hills in Gurgaon region to the Forest Survey of India (FSI) for preparing land change use maps. The CEC is likely to place the maps with the apex court by March 15.
The high-resolution, remote-sensing satellite images through National Remote Sensing Agency will help identify the extent of destruction and invasion of the Hills in the Gurgaon region.
“Since the village maps procured from the revenue departments are without the coordinates such as longitude and latitudes, we cannot identify the exact location of the constructions. The geo-rectified village maps would be superimposed on satellite imageries to get the exact locations of constructions and mines on the maps,” FSI officials said.
According to the estimates about 2500 acres in Gurgaon and 2000 acres in Faridabad on Aravalli hills have been identified where illegal activity is rampant. It comes to about 400 sq kms in both Gurgaon and Faridabad. Total area on Arvalli Hills spans about 1.25 lakh sq kms in entire Haryana state.
