The Gurgaon police have arrested a 24-year-old resident of Delhi for allegedly running a bogus friendship club.
The police the accused was fleecing gullible people with the help of his family members.
The friendship club had trapped more than 100 people and made lakhs of rupees during the past 8-9 months, the police added.
The police said they acted on a complaint filed by a young engineer working with a renowned automobile company in Gurgaon.
“The complainant got trapped after reading an advertisement in leading English dailies inviting people to call up at the given phone numbers. One Rajesh Gupta asked him to deposit Rs 2,000 in a bank account and gave the phone number of one Simran,” said Joint Commissioner of Police Alok Mittal.
“On calling Simran, the complainant was told that her name is Reena Joseph. He was also told to deposit Rs 15,000 in a bank account in that name.”
However, the girl stopped taking the complainant's call after he deposited the money. He then lodged a complaint.

{{/usCountry}}The police laid a trap and arrested Rajesh Gupta of Kapasera village and recovered eight mobile phones from him.
The police said during interrogation, Gupta revealed that Reena Joseph is his mother-in-law.
