Haryana government is holding talks with neighbouring states, especially Punjab, to evolve a roadmap for regulating and managing waterflow in major rivers during rainy season in the wake of recent devastating floods.
The state government is in talks with neighbouring states for formulating measures to ensure that people in the region are not affected by flood fury in future, Principal Secretary, Revenue Department, Naresh Gulati said on Thursday.
Haryana is contemplating a long-term scheme for cleaning and de-silting of various canals and enforcement of banks of river Ghaggar and Rangoi stream to prevent floods, he told reporters in Sirsa.
The recent floods have claimed 26 lives besides damaging standing crops worth crores.
Punjab had blamed Haryana's construction of multi-purpose Hansi-Butana link canal as the cause of floods, a charge denied by the latter.
Gulati reviewed the relief and rescue measures being undertaken by the Sirsa administration.
Meanwhile, the process of assessment of loss in 34,544 acres out of total 60,493 acres of flood-affected area in Sirsa district was completed, he said, adding it found cent per cent damage to crops in the areas.
Gulati visited the various flood-affected areas of district Sirsa including village Bani, Narel Khera, Moriwala, Dhani Satnam, Rania, Ottu Weir and Kariwala.
