Severe heat wave conditions continued unabated in Northern India on Saturday claiming at least twelve more lives with temperature soaring beyond 44 degree celsius in parts of Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana and Rajasthan.
At Kanpur in Uttar Pradesh, heat wave claimed six lives since yesterday with two deaths reported from central and Anwerganj railway stations.
In Bihar's Newada district, three persons died in Hardia village as the district reeled under intense hot weather.
In Rajasthan, three villagers died of heat stroke in the area under Sadar police station area in Beawar during the last 24 hours.
In Andhra Pradesh, heat wave have so far claimed more than 500 lives, while in West Bengal four deaths have been reported.
The day temperarture in Rajasthan's Ajmer, Bikaner, Jaipur, Kota and Udaipur divisions hovered between 43 and 45 degree celsius causing heat wave conditions, the weather bureau said.
Temperature in Hisar in Haryana and Amritsar in Punjab touched a high of 44.2 degree Celsius even as frequent tripping of power lines and low water pressure added to the woes of the people. However, no heat-wave death has been reported from Punjab and Haryana so far.
Meanwhile in the south, several parts of Tamil Nadu experienced sudden drop in temperature thanks to cloudy skies after reeling under heat wave conditions for over a month when mercury hovered in the range of 40-45 degree celsius.

After a gap of 93 years, the mercury in the metropolis touched a high of 45 degree celsius yesterday (113 degree F), forcing people to stay indoors.
