Heavy rains claim 14 lives in Maharashtra

Several farmers and their families were out in the fields for sowing when the mishaps occurred, police said.

Heavy rains accompanied by gusty winds and lightning have lashed parts of Marathwada region of Maharashtra, claiming 14 lives, police said on Sunday.

The worst-affected on Saturday was Latur wih seven deaths due to lightning, followed by three in Parbhani, two in Jalna and one each in Aurangabad and Nanded, police said adding that five persons were also injured in rain-related incidents.
