High Court directive to control Ganga pollution

HEARING A Public Interest Litigation (PIL) petition, the Allahabad High Court has directed the respondent authorities to submit a report on the outcome of the high-powered committee meeting scheduled on November 26 for releasing sufficient water in the Ganga at Allahabad, especially during the Ardh Kumbh Mela.

Passing this order, a Division Bench comprising Chief Justice AN Ray and Justice Ashok Bhushan also asked the National Pollution Control Board and the UP Pollution Control Board to take measures to control pollution in the river.
The court has fixed December 13 for further hearing.

This order was passed on a PIL filed by Mahant Swami Hari Chaitanya Brahmachari Ji Mahraj of Allahabad.

The petitioner had requested the court to direct the State government and other authorities to release sufficient water in the Ganga during the bathing festivals.

Self-centre scheme

HEARING A matter relating to self-centre examination scheme, the Allahabad High Court has once again extended its interim order till next date of hearing on November 22.

Earlier, in the interim order dated November 7, the court had directed Madhyamik Siksha Parishad, UP not to finalise the examination centres under self-centre scheme for High School and Intermediate examinations 2007.
