In the ongoing case filed by residents against imposition of house tax, the Supreme Court on Friday rapped Haryana government and Municipal Corporation of Gurgaon (MCG) officials yet again for not appearing in person and replying to queries it had posed during the last hearing on August 13.
While hearing the petition filed by Gurgaon Citizens’ Council (GCC), representing all localities of New Gurgaon, the apex court asked the MCG lawyer to call a senior official of principal secretary rank in the next hearing which has been scheduled for next month.
The court had asked the Haryana government and MCG whether they are providing basic facilities like sewer, water, streetlights and roads to the areas concerned.
The court had also asked MCG whether it has initiated the process of taking private builder colonies under its control. MCG was also asked if it should provide facilities to claim development taxes from residents. “The court expressed dissatisfaction and rapped the MCG lawyer for not answering these queries in absence of complete information,” said Nivedita Sharma, lawyer of GCC.
MCG Commissioner Sudhir Rajpal, however, denied that SC has asked officials to remain present in the next hearing.

{{/usCountry}}“We have assured the court through our lawyer that we will file an affidavit by the next hearing but the court has not asked MCG officials to remain present, as my lawyer told me,” said Rajpal.
