One of the cartoonists whose drawings of the Prophet Muhammad have sparked fury in the Muslim world said he has no regrets about the images' publication, a Scottish newspaper reported on Saturday.
The Glasgow-based Herald said it had interviewed cartoonist Kurt Westergaard in writing through an intermediary.
Mogens Blicher Bjerregaard, a spokesman representing the cartoonists who drew the pictures for the Jyllands-Posten daily, said he was not aware of the interview and could not put journalists in touch with the artists because of fears for their safety.
On Friday, a Pakistani cleric announced a $1 million bounty for killing the cartoonist who drew the caricatures that ran in the Danish newspaper Jyllands-Posten. He did not name an artist and seemed unaware that 12 people had created the pictures.
The Glasgow-based Herald reported Westergaard said he had not anticipated the furore the cartoons have created. At least 29 people have been killed in protests against the images across the Muslim world, including at least 10 in Libya on Friday.
Asked if he regretted drawing one of the pictures, Westergaard responded only "no," the paper said.
