So why is he now retracting from his statement in the CBI court, and describing Veena as his house-keeper?

Probably because Abha Rathore, the counsel-wife of Ruchika’s molester S.P.S. Rathore, has blamed the girl’s alleged step-mother, Veena, for her suicide in 1993, three years after the molestation.

S.P.S. Rathore is former Haryana police chief.

S.C. Girhotra said before the CBI court in Ambala on October 4, 2005: “I married Veena Girhotra in November 1991. This was my second marriage. She used to live with me in Panchkula till June 1995 and then we separated…

“It is incorrect that I lost the confidence of my children after marrying for a second time. It is incorrect to say that Ruchika had become depressed because of the behaviour of the step-mother….”

S.C. Girhotra refused to talk.

Anand Prakash, the Girhotras’ family friend, said he was sure that Ruchika’s father did not marry again.

“The statement given before the CBI is inadmissible as it has no signatures of Girhotra. As far as the statement in the CBI court is concerned, only a question regarding his second wife was put to Girhotra,” he said.
