Indian is Singapore's 10 millionth tourist

Singapore welcomes Sanjeev Bhandari at the Changi airport with prizes worth more than $34,000.

Singapore welcomed Saturday its 10 millionth foreign tourist of the year - an Indian, a local news channel reported on Saturday.

Sanjeev Bhandari, 36, arrived at the Changi Airport with his wife and two children to celebrate the coming Christmas Day in the city-state, according to Channel NewsAsia on Saturday night.

The Indians were welcomed with prizes worth more than 50,000 Singapore dollars ($34,000).

Singapore's Tourism Board (STB) said Saturday that the achievement of 10 million foreign tourists this year surpasses last year's record of 9.7 million.

Singapore is on track to achieve its tourism receipts target of 13.6 billion Singapore dollars ($9.3 billion) this year.

It seeks to achieve a target of 17 million foreign tourists and tourism receipts of $20.68 billion by 2015.
